Fertilization Rate and Early Embryonic Mortality in Ewes in North West Queensland
نویسنده
چکیده
The extent and nature of prenatal losses up to 20 days post-coitum were examined in three groups of ewes joined at intervals over the period September to December at at a time when ambient temperatures were high (>35”C). Fertilization rates ranged from 72.7 per cent to 80.4 per cent whilst the proportions of abnormal ova noted were similar to those recorded from more temperate areas of Australia. Embryonic mortality post-fertilization was not of great magnitude, the primary cause of prenatal loss to 20 days being fertilization failure.

Effect of intrauterine threads on fertilization rate in ewes.
Three experiments were conducted using a total of 84 ewes to determine the effects of bilateral or unilateral insertion of intrauterine threads on fertilization rate and unilateral insertion on embryonic survival. In experiment I bilateral insertion of intrauterine threads significantly reduced the proportion of ewes with fertilized ova 3 days after mating. Intrauterine threads inhibited fertil...
متن کاملFertilization and embryonic survival in ewes synchronized with exogenous hormones during the anestrous and estrous seasons.
Causes of reproductive loss in ewes synchronized and mated during the anestrous season and during the normal breeding season were compared with those for natural cyclic ewes mated in season. Synchronization of ewes in season and out of season with progestogen: pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) increased ovulation rate, but the percentage of ewes ovulating did not differ from that noted fo...
متن کاملThe effect of ciprofloxacin on sperm DNA damage, fertility potential and early embryonic development in NMRI mice
Side effects of ciprofloxacin (CPFX), a widely used broad spectrum antibiotic with fluoroquinolone core, have been reported in different organs. In the present study we sought to elucidate the impact of ciprofloxacin on sperm chromatin integrity and sperm DNA damage using Aniline Blue and Acridine Orange technique, respectively. The fertility potential in male mice was also evaluated. NMRI male...
متن کاملEffects of Undernutrition on in Vitro Fertilization (ivf) and Early Embryonic Development in Sheep
Nutrition has been shown to influence several reproductive functions including hormone production, oocyte competence and fertilization, and early embryonic development. To determine the effects of maternal diet on in vitro fertilization (IVF) and early embryonic development, ewes (n=18) were divided into control and underfed groups and received 100% and 60% maintenance diet, respectively, for 8...
متن کاملEffects of overnutrition and undernutrition on in vitro fertilization (IVF) and early embryonic development in sheep
Nutrition has been shown to influence several reproductive functions including hormone production, oocyte competence and fertilization, and early embryonic development. To determine effects of maternal diet on in vitro fertilization (IVF) and early embryonic development, ewes (n = 48; 58.4 ± 1.7 kg initial body weight [BW]; 2.3 ± 0.1 initial body condition score [BCS]) were divided into control...
